The WNBA is coming to the defense of Brittney Griner after the Phoenix Mercury star was allegedly harassed at a Dallas airport.
In a statement by the league, the WNBA says that the safety of its players is its top priority and that it will remain committed to keeping the highest of security standards for the women of The W.
As we gather additional information about today’s incident at the Dallas Airport, it has come to our attention that this was orchestrated by a social media figure and provocateur. His actions were inappropriate and unfortunate. The safety of Brittney Griner and all WNBA players is our top priority. … We remain steadfastly committed to the highest standards of security for players.

The Mercury just wrapped up a back-to-back vs. the Dallas Wings where they fell in both contests.
Since returning to the court, Griner has pretty much picked up where she left off, averaging 21.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, a steal and nearly three blocks per game. But the same can’t be said for her team which is off to a 1-5 start.
Phoenix’s next game is scheduled for tomorrow night against the similarly struggling Indiana Fever.
