Wolves chief Scott Sellars has passed on his best wishes to Adama Traore, telling the winger to ‘show everyone what he is capable of’ at Barcelona.

La Liga giants Barcelona confirmed this evening that they have completed a deal to take Traore, 26, on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Catalan outfit have agreed to cover the Spaniard’s wages until June 30 and have an option to re-sign their former player outright for a fee of around £30million in the summer.

Traore rose through Barca’s academy ranks as a youngster, but made just one league appearance before leaving the club for Aston Villa in search of regular game-time back in 2015.

The Spain international went on to establish himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in Premier League football at Wolves and Tottenham had explored a move for his signature this month.

But the pull of the Camp Nou ultimately proved decisive for Traore and it’s clear all parties involved are satisfied with the deal.

‘Adama has always acted with the utmost professionalism,’ Wolves’ technical director, Sellars, told the club’s official website.

‘However, it is no secret that we have not been able to agree a new contract with him, despite protracted negotiations, and his desire at the moment is to play football elsewhere.

‘Everyone knows Barcelona is a city, and club, very close to Adama’s heart, so it is a dream move for him.

‘We have also agreed a very healthy option in the deal should Barcelona wish to make the move permanent this summer.

‘We wish Adama the best of luck in Spain, and hope that he plays regularly, has great success and shows everyone what he is capable of.’

Speaking to Barca’s official website, Traore said it was a ‘special moment’ being able to return to his boyhood club.

‘I’m so happy to come back here. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here so, for me, it’s a special moment,’ he said.

‘Many years I have been playing here. I grew up here in this town, I grew up here with my family, I grew up here with my friends and I’m very happy.

‘It’s a special moment. I would like to give back that happiness on the pitch and that’s all.’

Traore completed a move from Middlesbrough to Wolves back in 2018 and has made 154 appearances for the Wanderers across three-and-a-half seasons.

There are just 18 months remaining on the Spaniard’s current deal at Molineux and head coach Bruno Lage expects to lose the Spaniard for good in the summer.
