A 20-year-old female has been arrested after allegedly selling Leandro De Niro Rodriguez drugs before his death.

Robert De Niro’s grandson is said to have died from a suspected overdose, but this has not been confirmed yet.

According to The New York Post, the arrest happened on Thursday evening during an undercover sting by police, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security.

Reports suggest those investigating searched the suspect’s home that night.

The New York Police Department is yet to confirm the arrest.

Express.co.uk has contacted them for comment.

The news publication previously said that a white, powdery substance and drug paraphernalia were found near Leandro’s body.

Drena De Niro, the mother of Leandro, claimed he had died after being sold pills laced with fentanyl.

She wrote on her social media: “Someone sold him fentanyl laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him.

“So for all these people still f*****g around selling and buying this s**t, my son is gone forever.”

The heartbroken mother has since shared various posts in memory of her son.

Earlier this week, she shared two pictures of Leandro jokingly striking poses to the camera as he appeared in high spirits.

In the same post, the aspiring actor was seen as a child with their late dog Daisy on his lap.

She commented: “Missing you hard my Wild Boy Leo. I understand you better every day.

“You were and will always be a gift. Take care of our Daisy and let her take care of you now.”

Leandro had been following in his grandad’s footsteps and had started making a name for himself in the film industry.

In 2018, he starred as the son of George ‘Noodles’ Stone (played by Dave Chappelle) in the hit movie A Star Is Born, alongside main characters Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

The actor also acted in Cabaret Maxime alongside his actress mum in the same year.

A day after Leandro’s death, Robert released a statement via his representative to Page Six.

He said: “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.

“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone.

“We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
