A woman in Washington state was forced to jump from a moving vehicle after being abducted by a man who stopped her for help, police said.
The woman was in her car near Mill Plain Boulevard and Grand Boulevard in Vancouver Saturday morning when a man approached her vehicle and asked for water, authorities said.
“She helped the man out by providing him some water and then allowed the male to get into her vehicle,” the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.
“Once in the vehicle, the male produced a knife and used the threat of violence to take control of the car and then drove with the victim to the area of NE 28th Street.”
The victim told police that the car eventually slowed down on a dirt road near Fern Prairie, at which point she leaped from the vehicle and ran.
She was later found screaming and banging on doors in the town of Camas, where she woke up homeowner Jamie Woods and his wife Caitlin Martin.
Startled by the woman trying to enter their back door, the couple initially thought the woman was intoxicated.
“She had told me that someone was trying to kill her and took her car,” Woods told KOIN 6 News.

“So I said okay and I walked off into the street with her to see if I could see anything.”
At that moment, Woods said, “the car that she explained to me had turned the corner.”
Staying behind the gate to his own yard, Woods called 911.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find the woman “in distress.”
Authorities launched a search for the car based on the woman’s description, and were able to locate the vehicle a short time later.
The suspect, however, attempted to evade justice by speeding away.
After a brief pursuit, the suspect was arrested and booked on first degree charges of robbery and kidnapping, plus reckless driving and attempt to elude charges.
The suspect refused to identify himself upon being apprehended. Police are still working to confirm his identity.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office could not be immediately reached for comment.
The horrific story comes on the heels of the kidnapping of Memphis mom-of-two Eliza Fletcher, 34, who was snatched while jogging early Friday morning.
Fletcher’s alleged kidnapper Cleotha Abston was arrested over the weekend. Fletcher’s body, found by authorities late Monday, was officially identified on Tuesday.
