Wordle Today #413 Hint And Answer, Saturday August 6th

0

It’s been something of a musical summer for me. Last weekend my kids and I went to Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside of Denver, CO and saw Father John Misty perform with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. It was an incredible experience!

Yesterday evening, my brother and I went to The Shins here in town and watched them perform some of their best and most famous songs for a sold-out auditorium (though it’s a small enough venue that the show was quite intimate and a ton of fun).

And in-between all these musical adventures, I’m here busting out Wordles every day. One must keep one’s wits about them, after all. Lets’ take a look at today’s.

Today’s Wordle #413 Hint & Answer

Beep bop boot: Spoilers ahead! Spoilers ahead! You have been warned!

The hint: One of these visits the town of Patience, CO in a TV show that returns for the second half of its second season in just four days.

And the answer is . . . .

I’m pretty sure I had the luckiest possible first guess outside of actually getting it right this time, though I didn’t really realize it when I was guessing. According to Wordle Bot, while shine will typically cut the remaining solutions down to just 120, today it cut them down to just four. Not bad. (I checked and crane would have only brought that number down to 21 despite its statistically superior chances).

My second guess—grout—which I guessed to knock out some more common letters and vowels—brought that number down to just 1, though I had no idea at the time. At this point, I couldn’t think of anything at all and so I just tried a word that I knew wouldn’t be right but might at the very least clue me in or get something else in green. I also wanted to test the ‘A’ and so I guessed eniac and was actually a bit surprised when the game accepted it.

What is an eniac you ask? Well, it’s the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer—the very first “programmable, electric general-purpose digital computer” according to Wikipedia. It was completed in 1945 and was used primarily to calculate artillery firing tables for the US Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory. The more you know!

Once I had the ‘A’ things clicked pretty quickly. I guessed alien almost 100% sure it would be the right answer, and it was!

Go watch Resident Alien ASAP by the way. It’s one of the best shows on TV right now. Its star, Alan Tudyk, is genuinely terrific and hilarious and it’s got a great supporting cast. You can thank me later.
