Harry Kane has stated he feels in the best condition of his career as he aims to fire England into the quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old is yet to find the back of the net in the competition thus far but the Tottenham star is confident that, with his fitness at peak level, he can rediscover his goalscoring form.
“It goes back to 2018 and the World Cup,” he said. “I felt like from a physical and mental side of things, I started the tournament great with loads of goals and used a lot of energy.
“As the tournament went on, I felt like my performances dipped in the latter stages.
“I was conscious before the Euros of trying to make it go the other way. Obviously I still wanted to start well but I was trying to make sure that physically and mentally I was in the best shape for the knockouts.
“I’ve carried that into this tournament. I’d love to be sitting here with two or three goals but the group stage has gone well. Minutes-wise it’s not been too tough, the games haven’t been too physical when you look at the numbers and break it down.
“Going into the knockout stage, I feel really good, fit and sharp, coming off the back of the Premier League schedule. I feel as match fit as I’m ever going to feel. Only time will tell but hopefully I can do well tomorrow and come into the best form in these knockout games.”
