The world’s biggest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, was photographed taking part in its first sea trials.
Icon of the Seas is expected to be at sea for a week, while the shipyard tests some of its onboard systems.
The ship was constructed in Finland by Meyer Turku and is expected to be extremely popular when it starts its first voyages in 2024.
In a statement, a Meyer Turku spokesperson said: “Sea trials are one of the most important milestones on a ship’s road to completion.
“Sea trials are a way to test all the ship’s features that cannot be tested while docked, and that every function onboard is working as intended.”

But what can the cruising community expect from the world’s biggest ship? The huge ship will be able to carry 7,600 passengers at full capacity.
At 20 decks high and 1,198 feet long, the ship is longer than London’s Shard would be lying down.
British tourists will have to travel to join an Icon of the Seas cruise as it’s expected to primarily be used for Caribbean itineraries.
The ship’s inaugural sailing is planned for January 27, 2024 and it will visit Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay.
Icon of the Seas will be home to the largest pool at sea and the world’s biggest water park on a cruise ship.
When it hits the seas, Icon of the Seas will overtake Wonder of the Seas, another Royal Caribbean ship that’s currently the world’s biggest vessel.
