Well, it’s finally happened: the Ford Mustang Mach-E has been converted into an electric hearse, by U.K. coachbuilders Coleman Milne. That’s right — you can now go out quietly while lessening your impact on the environment at the same time. The specialty-vehicle manufacturer has also announced plans for a Mustang Mach-E limousine, for those still with us headed to the wake.

Of course, this is not the first time Coleman Milne has dipped its toes into the electric-hearse pool. It previously turned a Tesla Model S into a funeral car called the “Whisper Hearse.”

“We have long championed the electric hearse at Coleman Milne, and we’re proud to welcome the Etive hearse and limousine as the latest additions to our range,” Graham Clow, national sales director at Coleman Milne, said in a statement referring to the company’s name for the new Mach-E line.

“The Mach-E is the perfect base for a comfortable, quiet, and respectful hearse and limousine while also providing funeral directors with all the benefits and innovations found in today’s electric vehicles.”

The name “Etive” comes from a river in the West Scottish Highlands, and the cars are equipped with all the latest EV technology. Power comes from the Mustang Mach-E’s standard-range battery, a 75-kWh unit with an estimated range of 200 miles (321 km) per charge according to the (optimistic) WLTP test cycle. In addition, the Mach-E hearse can be readily recharged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent on the fly at any public charging station in just 38 minutes.

Versions of the electric hearse and limousine will be made available to funeral homes in the U.K. and the rest of Europe in left- and right-hand-drive configurations. The company expects the vehicles will be test-drive-ready in summer.

It’s still unclear how much the vehicle has been modified, outside of the obvious bodywork. However, speculation suggests the rear motor was likely moved back, on account of the new rear-axle placement. Other reports indicate the Mach-E limousine’s roof was raised by 4.5 inches for extra passenger comfort, and say it will include room for eight people, with options for privacy glass and a middle glass partition. Additionally, the cars have a full suite of connectivity features that can be used via the 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
