WoW: Dragonflight’s Next Patch Will Bring Players Face To Face With The Most Terrifying Dragon In Warcraft History

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s next update will introduce a new dungeon that will plunge players back in time to witness the fall of the greatest enemy the dragon aspects have ever-faced: the monstrous proto-dragon Galakrond.

Dragonflight’s major 10.1 update may have just been released, but Blizzard is already detailing what’s next for the MMORPG, and there’s a lot to take in. Titled Fractures in Time, the update will introduce an eight boss mega-dungeon called Dawn of the Infinite, where players will be hurtled through time to prevent the Infinite Dragonflight from triggering Nozdormu’s fabled transformation into the evil Murazond.

Along the way players will battle not only a version of current baddie Iridikron, but also come face to face with Galakrond himself. Players have long speculated that Galakrond, who factors heavily into the origin story of the dragon aspects, would show up in Dragonflight in some form. Now that the news is official, it’s kind of a big deal. Galakrond is the greatest foe the dragon aspects ever encountered, and it was their heroic stand against the gigantic, corrupted proto-dragon that saw the Keeper Tyr lift them up as magically imbued protectors of Azeroth. Blizzard has clarified that players won’t be fighting against Galakrond perse, but will instead be “facing the fallout from Galakrond’s demise.”

Additional details about Dawn of the Infinite are still scarce at this point, but the dungeon will only be playable on Mythic difficulty, similar to other mega-dungeons like Legion’s Return to Karazhan, Battle for Azeroth’s Operation: Mechagon, and Shadowlands’ Tazavesh, the Veiled Market.

Seeing Galakrond fully realized in-game for the first time is no doubt a hugely exciting aspect of the update, but there’s plenty more coming. Evokers are receiving a third, buff-focused specialization, called Augmentation, that is unlike any other DPS spec in the game. Additionally, the Warlock class will expand to all remaining non-Dracthyr races, including Pandaren, Zandalari Trolls, Night Elves, Draenei, Tauren, and more alongside a quest to unlock a new imp customization.

A new activity, Whelp Daycare, will also be introduced where players can help guide five dragon whelps as they grow, along the way learning more about each dragonflight and earning additional rewards. Talent updates and balance changes will come to Mages, Rogues, Holy Paladins, and more as part of the update, according to Blizzard.

Patch 10.1.5 does not have a release date, but will be available for testing on the game’s public test realm shortly. Blizzard has previously stated that its goal is for new content to be in the pipeline and testable shortly following the release of the latest update, and so far Blizzard has delivered on that promise. A WoW: Dragonflight content roadmap for 2023 has outlined one more major content update for this year, alongside two more smaller updates, of which 10.1.5 is one.
