In the main event of the WWE Money in the Bank 2023 premium live event, the Bloodline Civil War took place where The Usos defeated Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa after a hellacious encounter.

Roman hit Jey Uso with a Spear and went for the cover, but Jey kicked out by hitting Roman with a low blow, taking out a page of Roman’s playbook from a couple of years ago.

Then a series of superkicks, double superkicks were delivered by both The Usos, followed by a splash after which Jey finally pinned The Tribal Chief in what marked the latter’s first pinfall loss in 3.5 years.

Now, Jey Uso vs. Roman Reigns is reportedly scheduled to happen at SummerSlam 2023. At the same time, WWE probably had a long-term booking done for a mega match at WrestleMania 40.

This match was first officially hinted at the post-show press conference of the Money in the Bank premium live event where Cody Rhodes was asked if winning the World Heavyweight Championship would be “Finishing The Story”.

Rhodes answered that he doesn’t have anything against the World Heavyweight Championship from Raw. But “Finishing The Story” will only be completed after he captures the original WWE Championship which is the most coveted prize in sports entertainment.

In an update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cody Rhodes is indeed scheduled to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship held by Roman Reigns in the event of WrestleMania 40. Here’s more from the source on their second match:

“His storyline is that the belt that his father didn’t win – which is apparently Roman’s belt – that’s the one that’s the story. So basically, he almost has said it’s next year’s WrestleMania, which is the plan right now.”

The WWE Championship was never held by Cody Rhodes’ father, The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes and that’s what Cody wants to achieve to fulfill his family legacy. This has been the sole motive behind his return to WWE.

Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns II for WrestleMania 40 was reported long ago since Roman isn’t planned to drop his title anytime, soon. Going by the current circumstances, WWE hasn’t seemingly altered its creative direction in a long shot.
