Langer, who is on commentary duty for the title clash between India and Australia, said Kohli walked up to Smith and him and ‘criticised’ his contemporary by saying “rubbish shot”.
Smith scored a scintillating hundred in the first innings and was going strong on 34 in the second innings before he decided to dance down the track against Ravindra Jadeja to clear the mid-on boundary. However, a leading edge landed into the hands of Shardul Thakur who ran towards his right from point to complete the catch.
“I had a really nice moment this morning out there in the middle. I was talking to Steve Smith and Virat Kohli walked up and said ‘rubbish shot’.
“And Steve Smith, if it was anyone else in the world, he would have said ‘hmm, whatever’ but coming from Virat Kohli he said ‘Hmmm, Ya! Fair call, it was a rubbish shot’,” Langer said.
For those unaware, Kohli and Smith competed intensely against each other on field and were involved in a few heated banters in the initial stages of their career. However, the two modern day greats now share a beautiful camaraderie and mutual respect for each other.
Ahead of the WTC final 2023, Virat Kohli had called Steve Smith the best Test batter of this generation. Smith in return called Kohli “the superstar of the game”.
