India lost the semi-final of the 2015 World Cup before losing in the final against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Later, they lost to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup.
In 2021 India were ousted from the league stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup. The side again lost in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. West Indies had defeated India in the semi-final of the 2016 T20 World Cup.
