He has shown that in this ongoing IPL 2023 season. Kohli has amassed 538 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore this season and scored his maiden 100 of the season on Thursday (May 18) against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
But after the match, the batter confirmed he is thinking about the upcoming WTC Final which will be played between India and Australia in June at the Oval.
And on Friday, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting revealed a chat with Virat Kohli earlier which can be a huge headache for the Aussies. Ponting was at the curtain raiser event for the World Test Championship Final in New Delhi.
The former Aussie captain unveiled the Test Mace and then involved himself with some academy kids as a part of the ICC event. Ponting, who serves as the head coach of Delhi Capitals, then revealed Kohli’s chat with him.
“I caught up with Virat about a month ago when we played them in Bangalore,” said Ponting.
“And I had a good chat with him about his batting and where he was at and his career. And he said to me then that he actually feels like he’s almost back to his absolute best,” he continued.
“You probably saw that last night, you know, he’s had a very good IPL and I’m sure he’ll be the prize wicket that all the Australians are looking are looking forward to,” the DC coach further added.
India are already missing a plethora of players for the upcoming WTC Final. Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul are among the absentees as the Indian team eye to redeem themselves from the previous WTC Final’s despair.
And Ponting believes the battle between India’s batting and Australia’s pace attack will determine the fate of the WTC Final.
“I think it’ll be India’s top order against Australia’s fast bowling, It’s a bit of a mouth-watering thought going forward,” Ponting, who will be at the WTC Final as commentator, added.
