WTC Final: Joe Root, Trent boult react as Yashasvi Jaiswal posts picture with Rohit Sharma on London flight

The 21-year-old opener has been picked as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaiwkad who was named in the standby list alongside Suryakumar Yadav and pacer Mukesh Kumar. Gaikwad reportedly informed the BCCI that he would not be able to travel before June 5 because of his marriage on June 3.

The WTC final between India and Australia kicks off from June 7 at The Oval in London. Players have been travelling in batches post their IPL campaigns. The likes of Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur were the first ones to reach and have been training under head coach Rahul Dravid.

Former India captain Virat Kohli has also arrived in England after his team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. Yashasvi and Rohit are the latest players to join the India camp in London.

“Off to England for the World Test Championship Final with the one and only Rohit Sharma,” Yashasvi captioned his picture with Rohit on board the flight to London.

“Good luck Yash,” Root, the fourth ranked Test batter in the world, commented.

“Told you! See you in October,” Trent Boult, the 16th ranked Test bowler, has commented, hinting travelling to India with the New Zealand squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

“Fully deserved,” former England captain Michael Vaughan has said replying to the post.

Further, Tilak Varma, who himself has impressed one and all through his stunning show for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2023, also reacted to the picture which has garnered over 8 lakh likes. “So happy for you Jassu,” he wrote. There have been calls to include Varma also in India’s T20I squad.

Jaiswal was in stellar form for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2023. He scored 625 runs in 15 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. There were calls for his inclusion in the Indian team after his stellar campaign in the season. The Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season saw him score 404 runs in five matches.

Overall, the Mumbai opener has played in 15 first-class matches and scored 1845 runs including nine hundreds and two fifties at an average of 80.21.
