Likes of Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh minced no words in criticising the DRS call as many suggested that Green didn’t put enough finger behind the ball to complete the catch. Fans vented out their anger at the decision as well.

Cameron Green takes a controversial stunner on Day 4 of WTC Final 2023

The incident led to an early Tea break on the day as Shuman Gill was caught at gully after he thick-edged a hard-length delivery bowled by Scott Boland at the beginning of the eighth over.

Harbhajan Singh, while speaking on Aaj Tak, said: “TV umpire didn’t use the zoomer to get conclusive evidence. the ball grazed the ground when Green was lifting his hand up. Only his middle finger was underneath the ball. The umpire didn’t use the technology well.”

We take a look at some of the Twitter reactions:

Before Shubman Gill’s dismissal, he, along with skipper Rohit Sharma, gave a quick start in the record chase of 444 by adding 41 runs in just seven overs for the opening wicket. Gill shot two boundaries during his 19-run stay while his WTC final ended on a sour note with just 32 runs across two innings. The young opener came into the series amid high expectations as he won the Purple Cap during IPL 2023.

Earlier in the day, Australia declared their innings at 270/8 after skipper Pat Cummins (5) was dismissed midway through the 85th over by Mohammad Shami. Alex Carrey scored a 66 not out while Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Starc scored 41 runs each. Ravindra Jadeja shone with the ball for India as he took 3/58 while Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav took two wickets each.

At the time of writing this report, India were 65/1 in 12 overs as Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara rebuilt the chase during the second-wicket stand.
