The 21-year-old southpaw, who is yet to make his India debut in any format, has replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the stand-by list. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Gaikwad informed the BCCI that he can travel to the UK only after June 5 because of his marriage on June 3.
Head coach Rahul Dravid took the call and asked the selectors for a replacement. As Jaiswal already holds a UK visa, he will be flying to London in the next few days.
Jaiswal was in stellar form for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2023. He scored 625 runs in 15 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. There were calls for his inclusion in the Indian team after his stellar campaign in the season. The Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season saw him score 404 runs in five matches.
Overall, the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer has played in 15 first-class matches and scored 1845 runs including nine hundreds and two fifties at an average of 80.21.
Further, Suryakumar Yadav – one of the three (Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar) stand-by players will leave for the UK with IPL 2023 finalists Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill on May 30.
India captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishen will leave for London on May 28. The Indian team has left for London in batches. Players including Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel have already started to train in London.
