Earlier this year in January, Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023 match and he had to mandatorily go after the Undisputed WWE Title held by Roman Reigns since both titles have been unified since Wrestlemania 38 in 2022.
On a contrary note, the winner of the Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 will have a choice to go after a title between either the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship.
According to the reports of Xero News, WWE Officials are discussing the current Intercontinental Champion Gunther to be the winner of the next Royal Rumble match and then go on to WrestleMania to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship.
At present, Roman Reigns remains the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and he’s expected to be the champion till Wrestlemania arrives in 2024. As for the inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Champion, it will be either Seth Rollins or AJ Styles.
Gunther made his debut at Royal Rumble as the number-one entrant in the 2023 installment and came out as the greatest performer. Entering the match at the number-one spot, he lasted for 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 40 seconds to set an all-time record.
Gunther had also held the Intercontinental Title for 345 days to become the longest-reigning champion of the modern era. Within 110 days of time, he will break The Honky Tonk Man’s record of the single longest Intercontinental Title reign of 454 days.
At this point, Gunther is a member of Monday Night Raw who will defend the Intercontinental Title against Mustafa Ali at the Night Of Champions premium live event this coming Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
WWE is yet to officially declare anything regarding Royal Rumble 2024. According to an earlier report by WESH 2, WWE is likely to stay in their familiar territory of Florida for this extravaganza.
The Tourist Development Tax Sports Incentive Committee has reportedly requested $850,000 from the Greater Orlando Sports Commission in the first week of May for hosting the 2024 Royal Rumble.
If the bid remains successful then it’s likely that Royal Rumble will take place at the Camping World Stadium fka Citrus Bowl which previously hosted two Wrestlemania PPVs, 24 and 33, respectively in 2008 and 2017.
