The championship swap is yet to happen, meaning that both the champions will continue to stay in the opposite brand. In the meantime, the Raw Women’s Championship also changed hands at Night of Champions 2023.
During last weekend’s WWE Premium Live Event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Asuka defeated Bianca Belair to become the new Raw Women’s Champion and an overall 4-time Women’s Champion in her WWE main roster career.
As she starts her brand new title reign on tonight’s SmackDown, the ongoing happenings suggest that WWE’s resident queen could be coming after her titles. As pointed out by WWFOldSchool, Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair could be the next championship feud on the blue brand.
While Flair continues to enjoy her hiatus from the WWE, she’s being advertised for SummerSlam and a live event scheduled in late June. This suggests that the multi-time champion’s comeback is imminent on WWE programme.
Moreover, following Asuka’s championship win in Saudi Arabia, Charlotte Flair tweeted a clown and crown emoji in Asuka’s picture where she was posing with her newly own championship belt at Night of Champions.
This certainly indicates WWE wants to kick-start a program between The Empress of Tomorrow and The Queen that would be a top feud over the Raw Women’s Championship on SmackDown. The question is whether that begins, tonight.
Back at Night of Champions, Asuka ended Bianca Belair’s 400+ day Raw Women’s Championship reign which is the longest Women’s Title reign of the modern era by using mean antics against the former champion.
Asuka spat the green mist in her fingers and put those misty fingers in Bianca’s eyes as Bianca went for the KOD. Bianca was blinded by this and Asuka had no problems in pinning her with a kick to the back of her head.
It’s safe to say that Bianca should be coming for redemption against Asuka on SmackDown but then again we have seen enough of Asuka vs. Bianca during the WrestleMania 39 season. From that perspective, Flair’s return to the title picture would be something fresh.
The overall 14-time WWE Women’s Champion was last seen on WWE programming on WrestleMania 39 Night Two where she dropped the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley. She went on a hiatus to reportedly participate in a bodybuilding competition.
