The special edition of Smackdown on FS1 had a Rules of the Engagement segment in store as the headliner where Roman kicked things off by telling the Orlando crown to acknowledge him and they did so.
After Jey arrived at the ring, Roman said Jey was just a pawn in this game before presenting him with the contract for their match to be official. Jey tore up the contract amid huge cheers from the crowd and said they didn’t need any contract.
“Main Event” Jey Uso then said this match at SummerSlam 2023 will be a “Tribal Combat” Match where they can basically engage in physical capacity under a No Disqualifications environment. Roman then upped the stakes for the match a bit more.
It was announced that this match at Summerslam 2023 will eventually be a “Winner Takes All” match as the winner will be the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and The Tribal Chief of The Bloodline faction.
Roman and Jey then made the match official in a Samoan way by holding hands and touching heads. A confused Solo Sikoa went ahead to hit Samoan Spike on Jey, but Roman stopped him. Jey then superkick-ed Solo to end Smackdown.
Roman Reigns last successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Title at Wrestlemania 39 against Cody Rhodes. Summerslam will mark only his fourth overall title defense of 2023 in a rematch against Jey from 2020.
Speaking of Summerslam, the WWE Women’s Championship Match has also been officially announced on Smackdown where the champion Asuka will defend her title against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat.
On the July 21 episode of Smackdown, Charlotte Flair defeated Ms. Money in the Bank IYO SKY in a singles contest. Bayley was sitting on commentary during this match despite picking up a reported injury, last weekend.
A vignette for Shotzi aired on the titantron which freaked Bayley out as she left the ringside area. After the match was over, the WWE Women’s Champion Asuka came out and punished Charlotte with the Armbar submission move.
Following this segment, the third overall championship match for the 2023 Summerslam premium live event was officially announced which takes place at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The current match card for the PLE is given below:
– Tribal Combat Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
– Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes III
– World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor
