WWE WrestleMania 39 Night One Results, Recap and Highlights

Legendary John Cena returned to competition to compete in a United States Title Match. Smackdown Women’s Title was hanging in the balance as Charlotte defended it against the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley.

The first-ever father-son duel in WWE history was on the card between the Sr. and Jr. Mysterio family members. Seth Rollins was up for vengeance against Celebrity Logan Paul while WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita were also seen in a tag team action.

Check out the recap, and results from Night One of WWE WrestleMania 39 Premium Live Event that went down from the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday (April 1) night:

– WrestleMania 39 main show kicked off with WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg and the Host of WrestleMania Hollywood, who hyped up a record 75,000 fans in attendance in Inglewood.

– United States Champion Austin Theory (c) defeated John Cena in the opening contest of WrestleMania to retain his title. Make-A-Wish kids who wanted to go to WrestleMania were brought on the stage during Cena’s entrance.

Cena hit his pendant 5-Knuckle Shuffle sequence. While going for the AA, the referee was knocked out and hence there was no official when Theory tapped out to the STF.

But Cena thought he won the match and started celebrating in the ring. Theory took the opportunity and low-blowed Cena before planting him with the A-Town Down finisher for the pin to win.

– Men’s WrestleMania Showcase Match: The Street Profits defeated Braun Strowman & Ricochet and Alpha Academy and The Viking Raiders in a Fatal-4-Way contest.

All the men got involved in a brawl outside the ring. Then in a crazy spot, Ricochet hit a Shooting Star Press from the top rope to the outside to put down the participants of the match.

He went for another such top rope move inside the ring on Angelo Dawkins, but Dawkins got his knees up to counter. Montez Ford got the tag and hit a Frog Splash for the pin to win.

– Seth Rollins defeated Logan Paul in the next match of WrestleMania Saturday. Both the men got special entrances. Logan came flying through the air on a zip line on his 28th birthday with KSI dressed like a masked bottle.

KSI was trying to help Logan in the match. In response, Seth pulled in KSI on the announce table and Logan accidentally frog-splashed KSI through the table. Seth hit a Pedigree on Logan but he kicked out of the pin attempt.

Logan countered Rollins with a GTS, followed by a Frog Splash but Rollins kicked out. Logan then tried a Coast To Coast, but he instead met with a Superkick. Rollins immediately followed up with the Stomp for the pin to win.

– Trish Stratus and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Lita & Becky Lynch defeated DAMAGE CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) in a six-woman non-title tag team match at WrestleMania 39.

Dakota kicked Lita in the head after which the DAMAGE CTRL connected with a Triple Superkick on Lita but the WWE Hall of Famer kicked out and finally made the hot tag to Trish Stratus.

Eventually, a huge brawl broke out in the ring when Lita hit the Twist Of Fate and the Moonsault to take out Kai and SKY. Becky was the legal woman in the match who hit Bayley with the Manhandle Slam from the second rope for the pin-fall win.

– Rey Mysterio defeated Dominik Mysterio (with Damian Priest of Judgment Day). The 2023 WWE Hall of Famer Rey came out in a car with Snoop Dogg with Eddie Guerrero’s music.

The entire Mysterio family with Legado del Fantasma were sitting at ringside while celebrity Bad Bunny was the special Spanish Guest Commentator in this match. While talking trash to his mother, Dominik got a slap from her right across the face.

After Rey kicked out of a 619 and Frog Splash, Dominik took out a steel chain from Damian’s jacket, but Bad Bunny took it away. Rey hit the 619 and the Frog Splash for the pin to win.

– The 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair (c) to win the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. Ripley walked out solo into the match while Flair got a huge amount of pyro.

After a big boot, Charlotte applied the Figure-Four Leg Lock, but Rhea reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Rhea then smashed Charlotte’s face on the ring post and hit the Riptide off the second rope to secure the pin-fall win.

– The Miz and Snoop Dogg announced WrestleMania 39 Night One attendance to be 80,497. Snoop wanted The Miz to compete in a match. Pat McAfee made his return and defeated Miz in seconds by punting him in the head.

– In the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night One, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn defeated The Usos (c) to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships and put an end to the longest-reigning tag title run.

In a crazy spot, Kevin hit both Usos with Pop-Up Powerbombs while Sami hit the Helluva Kick on Jimmy. Kevin then hit Jey with the Stunner and went for the cover, but Jey still kicked out of the pin attempt.

All four men then started brawling in which Usos took out both KO and Sami with superkicks followed by Frogsplashes but Kevin kicked out. Sami downed Jey with 3 Helluva Kicks in a row, while Owens recuperate to hit Jimmy with a Stunner for the pin-fall win.
