WWE WrestleMania 39: Spoiler on Ronda Rousey’s changed match; Update on injury

However, the former UFC Fighter won’t be seen in any of the title matches that were previously planned for her at the Showcase of Immortals. Rather, she could be seen competing in a random tag match to earn a future title shot.

On the latest episode of Smackdown, the commentator Wade Barrett announced that WrestleMania 39 would feature both women’s and men’s Fatal-4-Way tag team matches.

Although no specific stakes around these matches have been mentioned, a qualifying match immediately went down, determining Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to be the first set of participants to enter the fray as they defeated the team of Tegan Nox and Emma.

WrestleVotes has reported that Ronda Rousey Rousey and her current tag team partner Shayna Baszler will be competing in this Fatal-4-Way match. The other two pairs will be Natalya/Shotzi from Smackdown, and Chelsea Green/Carmella from Raw.

Chances are high that whichever team wins this match, will be awarded with a title shot in the future. Thus, Rousey/Baszler will eventually end up challenging WWE Hall of Famer Lita and Becky Lynch for the Women’s Tag Team Titles at a later date.

After Ronda Rousey dropped the Smackdown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair in December 2022, the new plan called for Rousey and Baszler to go after the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships then held by DAMAGE CTRL’s Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.

WWE then booked Becky Lynch and Lita to take the titles away from Dakota and IYO on the February 27 episode of Raw so that the new champions can face Rousey/Baszler in a marquee match.

But at the same time, Rousey ended up suffering an injury. While WWE had nothing to offer regarding this, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reports that she is dealing with a ‘hairline fracture’ in her arm. This was also previously reported to be a re-aggravated injury from the past.

Although no timeline regarding her return has been confirmed by WWE or any of the sources, she’s expected to compete at WrestleMania 39 in the above-mentioned match.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet was slated to compete in a tag team match on SmackDown on the March 3 episode. Teaming up with Baszler, she was supposed to take on Nox and Natalya on the show.

However, the match was converted into a singles bout due to Rousey’s injury where Baszler defeated Nox via submission. Rousey was standing at ringside with a sling in her left hand.

A storyline angle was spread to set up an apparent kayfabe injury as the two teams got into a physical fight before the show. The announcers thereby explained that Rousey suffered the injury in the brawl where her left arm was bashed onto a production box.

The 2-time Smackdown Women’s Champion last got involved in a physical capacity on a Road to WrestleMania 39 Supershow on February 25 in a tag team match with Baszler against Natalya and Tegan Nox.
