During the May 29 episode of Monday Night Raw, Rousey and Baszler defeated Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi, Damage CTRL (Bayley & IYO SKY), and Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville in a Fatal-4-Way Match for the vacant Women’s Tag Team Championship.
If the previous reports are to go by then the former two MMA performers were always the favorites to win the tag titles heading into WrestleMania 39. But the earlier plans had to be scrapped due to Rousey reaggravating an arm injury.
The Baddest Woman on the Planet returned from the injury during the May 15 episode of Raw and quickly got into the mix of the tag title picture. Within two weeks, she became the tag champion who also intends to rule the roost from now on.
However, the eventual plan on WWE’s part is to pit these two champions against each other. According to Xero News, Rousey, and Baszler will reach a break-up point which would further set up a match between them at WrestleMania 40.
Since her debut on the main roster in January 2020, Shayna, the former longest-reigning NXT Women’s Champion didn’t get to showcase her talents. Rousey, being a big supporter of Shayna, wants to bring the best out of her.
For a long time, Ronda Rousey has also filed complaints about a lack of competition in the WWE. She’s done dancing with top talents in the ring from Raw – SmackDown. From that perspective, Shayna would be a fresh and worthy opponent for her.
We’re likely to have to wait for a few more months for the feud to get kicked off on WWE programming. Rousey is reportedly set for another time off which could put the current creative plans for WrestleMania 40 on hold, once again.
Ronda Rousey is a three-time overall singles Women’s Champion in her WWE career. She has won both the RAW (1-time) and SmackDown Women’s Titles (2-time). Thus far, she has participated in four WrestleMania matches, as given below:
– WrestleMania 34 – teamed up with Kurt Angle to defeat Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
– WrestleMania 35 – lost to Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat Main Event for the RAW & SmackDown Women’s Championship, also featuring Charlotte Flair
– WrestleMania 38 – lost to Charlotte Flair in the SmackDown Women’s Championship match
– WrestleMania 39 – teamed up with Shayna Baszler to win the Women’s Showcase Match
WWE’s WrestleMania 40 Premium Live Event will take place on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Any superstar or match is yet to be officially booked for the show.
