Mustafa Ali wanted to put his own spin on part of the Hulk Hogan persona for his own WWE character.

The fan favourite performer – who returned to Raw in May having requested his release at the start of the year – has often shared little tidbits of ideas with his followers on social media, and it turns out he was keen to use Hogan’s Real American entrance music on screen.

Back in November, just weeks after cutting a scathing promo about prejudice, Ali revealed he wanted to run with a ‘New America’ persona and his plans even got as far as putting together a fantastic vignette.

However, he later shared the video on Twitter and revealed those plans had been scrapped.

‘A few weeks ago, I made a statement that some deemed controversial. My intentions were to bring a beautiful vision to life,’ he tweeted at the time. ‘Unfortunately, for reasons beyond my control, I won’t be able to make that vision a reality. But I can share with you what could have been.’

In the promo, Ali spoke about the way ‘people like him’ are treated in the US and said: ‘The truth us, you never will. Despite my greatest efforts to fix this problem, I realise that this a problem I cannot fix.

‘But I can overcome it. I will do just that. I will do that by launching a campaign for a New America! In this New America, it is your name that is just too hard to pronounce.

‘It is you that looks suspicious. It is you that I do not accept. It is you that does not belong here!’

Now, Ali has revealed part of the character change would actually have involved using Hogan’s Real American theme song, as he responded to a suggestion from a fan saying: ‘At one point that was the plan!’

Meanwhile, the wrestler recently hinted at a change in presentation on screen as he looks to embrace his Pakistani, Indian, American and Muslim roots.

‘I’ve always found myself toning down who I am to be more “marketable”… and because of that I find myself trying to find myself,’ he wrote. ‘Screw being marketable. I’m gonna be a message.’
