X Gon’ Give It To Ya: Jeep Grand Cherokee to earn ‘X’ trims

Enter a report from America stating that both the two-row Grand Cherokee and its three-row Grand Cherokee L sibling will earn ‘X’ trims in the upcoming model year. Historically positioned as an offshoot of existing trims – think Laredo and Laredo X, or Altitude and Altitude X – these choices generally added some luxury features and dark exterior trim pieces.

Whilst there are often trim differences between Canada and America, the Jeep build-and-price tools for both countries currently show an equal amount of choice both north and south of the border on Grand Cherokee, save for the befuddling option of two-wheel-drive in the States. Our contact at Jeep in this neck of the woods clammed up like an oyster when asked on the prospect of these trims in Canada.

Nevertheless, know that these “X” trims have also appeared up here in the past, with the last-gen 2022 Grand Cherokee still being shown on the site as being available in “Altitude X” trim. It adds black exterior trappings, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and a smattering of other features for a hefty $7,000 premium, and sat as the old Grand Cherokee’s top trim at the end of its 2022 model year. “X” also showed up from time to time on li’l bro Cherokee before that model was broomed last month and sent to the great off-road trail in the sky.

In Canada, the Jeep brand has moved 439 two-row Grand Cherokee SUVs and 3,528 three-row Grand Cherokee L SUVs so far this year, numbers which mark a decrease of 84 per cent and a jump of 62 per cent, respectively. With numbers like that, it would be tempting to speculate that Jeep is eating its young — which is to say the growth of the L is coming at the expense of two-row sales. However, with supply chains still causing headaches and last year’s numbers being impacted by pandemic shopping habits, we’ll wait another couple of financial quarters before drawing any conclusions.
