Yes, ‘totally broke’ Armie Hammer is selling hotel timeshares in the Cayman Islands, report says

Despite efforts by a hotel resort in the Cayman Islands to deny rumors that Armie Hammer is on their payroll, Variety said it has confirmed that the disgraced actor is in fact “totally broke” and has taken a job at the resort selling timeshares.

A source told Variety Wednesday that the once-ascendant star, dropped from Hollywood film and TV projects after being hit with a series of sexual abuse allegations last year, is “working at a cubicle.” The source added: “The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”

The source also said that Hammer — acclaimed for roles in “Call Me By Your Name” and “The Social Network” — previously managed an apartment complex in the Cayman Islands, where he is currently living in order to stay close to his two children Harper, 7, and Ford, 5, with ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, 39.

When contacted by Entertainment Weekly, Hammer’s attorney Andrew Brettler said he couldn’t “confirm or deny” whether Hammer was working as a salesperson because the actor “hasn’t addressed it.”

But Brettler, in an email, scolded Entertainment Weekly for its inquiry. “I just think it’s (expletive) that, if he is selling timeshares, the media is shaming him for having a ‘normal job.’ What’s the story here?”

Variety reported that Hammer, 35, is struggling financially, despite being the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer, who was worth an estimated $800 million at the time of his death in 1990. Unfortunately, the actor is “not on the family payroll” and needs to work at a regular job to earn money, Variety’s source added.

Reports about Hammer’s professional downfall first emerged July 6, when a photo of a flyer depicting Hammer as a concierge at Morritt’s Resort in Grand Cayman, began circulating on social media, Variety and EW reported. The photo of the flyer was first shared by the verified Twitter account of Muna Mire, a producer on Showtime’s “Desus & Mero.”

At the time, Brettler told Variety that the flyer was a fake. A hotel staffer also told Variety and other outlets that the flyer was actually a prank and that Hammer was not employed there as a concierge. Instead, Hammer was a guest at the resort and had become friendly and gone golfing with some employees. Those employees, in turn, made up the flyer and sent it to some rooms to see what sort of attention it might get.

“I could only dream of this sort of publicity,” the hotel staffer told Variety last week.

The situation was complicated last weekend when TMZ published photos that appeared to show Hammer in a uniform and working at Morritt’s. But the resort maintained that the photos only showed Hammer visiting the establishment’s office. Chris Butcher, director of sales at Morritt’s, told the Los Angeles Times on Monday that Hammer wasn’t an employee but golfs with a member of the staff who invited him to “come and see what we do.”

Variety reported Wednesday that it appears that the hotel was trying to protect Hammer from negative publicity, with its source saying that the actor is in fact working there.

Hammer’s fall from grace came last year after he was accused online of sexual abuse and improper behavior by numerous women. In the wake of those allegations, Hammer was dropped by his agency, WME, and was fired from several high-profile projects, including the movies “Shotgun Wedding” with Jennifer Lopez and “Billion Dollar Spy.” He also lost roles in the Broadway play, “The Minutes” and the Paramount+ series, “The Offer,” about the making of “The Godfather.” Miles Teller took over his role.
