It was spring 2022 when Dodge reluctantly revealed that, due to the need for some “revised calibration,” the Tremec six-speed manual mated to Hellcat 6.2-litre V8s would no longer be available. Speculators posited the gearbox perhaps needed some fiddling to bring it back in line with new emissions regulations, and Dodge reps said at the time we’d see the manual offered again in those Challengers and Chargers, but they didn’t have a timeline for when.

To rub salt into the wound, the six-speed would still come standard in the naturally aspirated 5.7-liter R/T and 6.4-liter R/T Scat Pack trims, in the interim. C’mon, Dodge! You know yourselves that manuals make up roughly 35 per cent of Challenger Hellcat orders, at least as of 2018.
Anyway, you can put down your pitchforks, because the folks over at Car and Driver have confirmed that the stickshift is available in Hellcat cars once more, just in time to see the remainder of the 2023 model year off. In Canada, checking off that box adds a $1,000 premium to the $87,160 base price (of a Challenger Hellcat) over the default eight-speed automatic. We’d expect it be an especially popular choice among buyers of the slew of special edition Chargers and Challengers the automaker is rolling out to say good-bye to the models.
