All hail Rihanna, queen of the red carpet. Though the musician and Fenty Beauty founder didn’t walk the red carpet at the 2023 Golden Globes, she did attend the event — in stunning head-to-toe Schiaparelli Haute Couture, no less. Such an epic gown requires an equally stunning hair look to match, and Rihanna delivered 1,000 percent with an intricate twisted updo that played off the surrealist vibes of her dramatic gown.

Rihanna, who attended the ceremony alongside her partner, A$AP Rocky, donned an off-the-shoulder black gown with a ruched bodice and ankle-strap stilettos. The gown itself was simple, but attached to her opera-length velvet gloves was an enormous velvet cape with a long train and tons of volume at the shoulders. The star paired the couture look with a twisted updo that looked like a ’50s-era retro moment from the front, especially with the curled side bangs, but more like a cinnamon roll or funnel cake from the back.

Rih’s hair was parted in the middle and pulled up into two sections, then looped into large spirals for a twist, literally, on a classic curled updo.
