Plenty of people had lots to say about the lack of chemistry between Jonah Hill and Lauren London in their new Netflix rom-com You People. Now comedian Andrew Schulz is adding fuel to the fire by claiming the two co-stars never actually kissed at the end of the film.

Schulz, who plays Ezra’s cousin Avi in the film, says their final onscreen smooch was faked using CGI.

“I don’t even know if I should share this s—, but in the final scene, they don’t even kiss. It’s CGI. Swear to God, son,” he says on the Brilliant Idiots podcast he co-hosts with Charlamagne Tha God.

“I’m there, I’m watching the wedding, and I see them go in for the kiss and their faces stop like this far,” Schulz continued, holding up his hands about a foot apart.

“I’m like, ‘I wonder how they’re going to play that in the movie. Oh, they’re probably just going to cut right there,’” he added. “But in the movie, you could see their faces come close, and then you can see their faces morph a little bit into a fake kiss.”

In the new film, Hill plays Ezra Cohen, a Jewish financier and podcaster who falls into and madly in love with a Muslim designer (played by London). As the pair’s bond deepens, they try to unite their two families — played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny, and Eddie Murphy and Nia Long.

On social media, viewers weighed in on Schulz’s allegations by ripping the lack of spark between the onscreen couple.

“They had zero chemistry at all whatsoever and it was damn near science fiction because it was all so unbelievable. They might as well of had Lauren falling in love with a blue Avatar or one of the dinosaurs from Jurassic World,” one person wrote, with another adding, “This makes the movie even worse. The vibes felt fake and cringy. Felt chemistry-less. No wonder I couldn’t watch it fully.”

“I’m curious how this went down now and what the [conversation] was because for them to have to spent extra time, money and energy to edit and do special effects when they could’ve just really kissed is weird,” a third person questioned.

“The chemistry was non-existent so I’m not surprised at the CGI,” another critic chided.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, London admitted the two might not have been the most believable couple.

“They’re from two totally different worlds, and if you see them, you would never think that they would meet or hang out, whatever the case is,” she said. “It was a conversation on connecting with people genuinely and going for the soul connection.”

But she maintained that her and Hill got along off screen and forged a real connection with one another due to their shared life experience.

“We actually have a lot in common in our lives — some of our experiences and some of the ways we look at life and some of the ways we’ve taken life in,” she told the magazine. “And also, growing up in L.A., though we grew up in different areas … We’re both L.A. kids from the same era.”
