Whether you’re new to the world of hybrid skincare products or if you’re looking for a top-up, moisturisers with SPF are definitely worth considering. To help you find “the one”, we’ve put together a handy guide of the very best moisturisers with SPF, according to dermatologists. We made sure to include an option for every skin type, budget and preference – including the tried-and-tested formulas that are known and loved in the GLAMOUR office. But if you’re still unconvinced, make sure to read up on the below FAQs to make an informed decision.

Why do I need to wear SPF on a daily basis? What are the benefits?

“Wearing SPF on a daily basis is crucial for maintaining skin health and preventing sun damage,” shares Emma. “Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays, which are responsible for premature aging, sunburns, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Consistent use of SPF helps prevent sunburn, which is a sign of immediate damage to the skin.”

Applying sun cream SPFs and lotion SPFs all year round can also help reduce the risk of long-term damage and maintain your skin’s ability to produce both collagen and elastin.

Can I use a moisturiser with SPF as a substitute for a traditional sunscreen?

“Using a moisturiser with SPF as a substitute for traditional sunscreen on a beach holiday is not recommended,” says Emma, pointing out that most moisturisers may not provide sufficient sun protection for intense sun exposure.

“When choosing a moisturiser with SPF, consider factors such as SPF level (30 or higher), broad-spectrum protection (UVA and UVB), and applying an adequate amount for effectiveness,” she highlights. “For extended beach exposure, it’s best to use dedicated sunscreen with higher SPF levels, water resistance, and sweat resistance.”

In other words, while any amount of sun protection is better than nothing, it’s strongly recommend that you use anything with an SPF protection rating of at least SPF 30 or SPF 40, particularly in the summer months. Don’t get us wrong – products with SPF 15 or SPF 25 are perfectly fine to use too, but not on their own. You’ll likely that you’ll need to supplement them with a stronger sun cream or sunscreen for times when the sun is more aggressive. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
