Your Mexican Adventure Awaits At Generations Riviera Maya

0

Riviera Maya is a wonderful vacation spot with an astounding selection of kid-friendly day trips. Located along Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, it’s home to long stretches of sandy beaches, tropical jungles, coral reefs, diverse wildlife, and natural wonders like cenotes and lagoons where you can explore Mexico’s aquatic underground. There are plenty of luxurious all-inclusive resorts to choose from, including Generations Riviera Maya, a premier resort that’s perfect if traveling with extended family members or friends. Generations, by Karisma Hotels & Resorts, is located in Tulum in the heart of the Riviera Maya, 25 minutes south of Cancun International Airport.

Guests staying at Generations can book sightseeing tours through Lomas Travel in the lobby or on their website. The exhilarating Mayan Adventure tour is about five hours and includes three extraordinary ecosystems of the Mayan world that are ideal for families such as snorkeling in lagoons and exploring cenotes. In the Yucatán Peninsula there are over 6,000 cenotes, named after the Yucatec Maya word “D’zonot” – a place with underground water. These incredible sinkholes range in size and are natural, deep-water formations formed by collapsing limestone bedrock and the percolation of rainwater and currents of underground rivers.

Explore Natural Cenotes

Our first stop was Cenote Abierto, a stunning open air cenote with lots of fun and daredevil activities. After all, is it really a vacation if you haven’t jumped off a cliff screaming? While my son jumped immediately it took me several (over ten) false starts, but I finally leapt into the refreshing water below and was so glad I did. It made my next activity a tad easier, ziplining into the cenote.

Next up was a magical cavern cenote called Aktun Koh, which means Cave of the Puma. It’s located in the heart of the highest concentration of underwater caves in the world. The water was unlike anything I had ever seen and we were surrounded by magnificent limestone. We swam in the frigid, yet remarkably refreshing and clear water towards our guide off in the distance holding a flight light. Back on land we were welcomed by iguanas that crawled into the jungle when they saw us.

Snorkel In A Lagoon

After lunch we headed to our last stop, snorkeling in Yal Ku Lagoon, a tropical paradise. The freshwater lagoon is connected to the ocean and provides a magical marine environment for all sorts of sea creatures and perfect for young snorkelers due to the relatively shallow waters. This Mexican gem is hidden among villas and jungles and not a place we would have likely found had it not been for our guided tour.

Large Family Accommodations

Generations Riviera Maya has 159 luxurious suites all facing the stunning Mexican Caribbean Sea. Rooms have an oversized balcony or terrace, hot tub, large smart TV, double sinks, plush bathrobes, and enough closet space for everyone. The mini fridge is customizable and includes snacks for kids. If traveling with a baby they have strollers, cribs, changing tables, monitors, bottle warmers and even tiny bathrobes, so everyone can lounge in comfort. Multi-generational groups will love the oceanfront three bedroom swim up suite specifically designed for large parties with incredible views, ultimate privacy, and your own infinity pool.

Drop the kids off to meet new friends from around the world and head to the Naay Spa for luxurious pampering. Their Mayan inspired spa has both traditional and alternative spa therapies designed to soothe the senses for ultimate relaxation, inspired by native Mexico. (Kids Spa services also available for ages four to twelve.)

Haab serves authentic Indian Cuisine and there is an Indian Chef on property creating dishes such as famous Daal Tadka, a popular Indian lentil dish using a variety of spices. Other restaurants include Jade for Asian cuisine; a cocktail bar called Sling (family friendly from 5pm-10pm, after that it’s adults only); and Wine Kitchen, a restaurant and tasting room where adults can try wines from around the world.
