Happy New Year, Virgo, and welcome to January, the first month of 2023. Last month, your ruling planet, messenger Mercury, went retrograde. As a result, your New Year’s Eve may have come with travel delays and even a drunken text from an ex. Thankfully the planet goes direct this month (in addition to two others). But first, Venus, ruler of love, beauty, and money, enters Aquarius and your 6th House of Health on Monday, January 2. When astrologers talk about health, they don’t want to worry you. Rather (the 6th House is associated with your sign, Virgo), transits in this house encourage you to get organized. This isn’t the most glamorous New Year’s assignment, but the first week of January is the perfect time to take care of budgeting for medical expenses, set up needed doctor’s appointments, or even create a sleep schedule. You’ll feel much calmer about the new year once you do.

Then, after a busy first week, try to spend the first weekend of the year out with friends. Friday, January 6, brings a full moon in Cancer that illuminates your 11th House of Friendship. Try to put any work or relationship stress aside, and use this lunation to have fun. You’ve earned it. Mars, the warrior planet that rules our sex drives and assertive nature, has been retrograde but goes direct on Thursday, January 12. When this transit occurs, your focus will turn to dating, Virgo, so you’ll be thankful for the night spent bonding with your platonic support system.

Your ruling planet, Mercury, ends its retrograde and goes direct on Wednesday, January 18. As a result, communication becomes easier in all areas of your life. Shortly after, Aquarius season begins on Friday, January 20. During Aquarius season, you may feel more rebellious than usual. This energy is best channeled through activism and volunteering. So, if you’re not already, January is the perfect month to get more involved with a political or social issue near to your heart. Use the new moon in Aquarius on Saturday, January 21, to get organized and set goals for what you want to accomplish and, more importantly, how you plan to pursue it.

In August, eccentric Uranus, Aquarius’s planetary ruler, went retrograde. During the past few months, the stars asked you to work on your control issues (sorry to call you out) and let others take a leadership position. Yes, you’re often highly put together and lean towards perfectionism. However, remember to share the mic when Uranus ends its retrograde and goes direct on Sunday, January 22. This is good advice in activism, but it also applies to your love life.

January is busy, Virgo. You’re budgeting, seeing friends, trying to help the world, and you still have love on the brain (don’t worry, it’s normal, even asexual Virgos crave companionship). Earlier this month, Mars retrograde ended and reignited your sex drive, which may have felt a bit stagnant over the past few weeks. But when lover Venus enters dreamy Pisces and your 7th House of Partnership on Thursday, January 26, no matter how busy you are, make time for love and companionship. This could mean a date night, whether it’s with a new partner or within an established relationship. However, if you’re single, this transit could also see your platonic relationships deepening. And remember, Virgo, you can never have enough friends. Enjoy, try to get some rest in this month, and see you in February.
