Zach Parker is confident his shot against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s WBO title is ‘just around the corner’ should he beat Marcus Morrison on Saturday night.

Parker, the no1 contender for the belt, puts his undefeated record on the line against Morrison in Birmingham. On the same night, Canelo will seek to unify the super-middleweight division when he takes on Caleb Plant with the WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF titles all on the line in Las Vegas.

Parker has racked up two impressive wins since linking up with Frank Warren at the start of the year to move 21-0 and insists he will be at the top of the queue to take on the new unified champion in 2022.

‘I was inactive for two or three years, not getting the fights I wanted because of different promotional issues,’ Parker told Metro.co.uk.

‘Now I’m with Frank and BT Sport, we are going up and up. We are on the right path and we are not far from the Canelo shot. We will have to see how he gets on against Caleb Plant but I think that fight is just around the corner. I’ve just got to keep getting those wins.’

Should Canelo beat Plant however the Mexican superstar may be tempted to vacate the belts and move up to the light-heavyweight division, where he won a world title by knocking out Sergey Kovalev in 2019.

But with Canelo reportedly weighing up fighting in the UK for the first time, Parker believes the fight remains a strong possibility.

‘He has said a couple of times he wants to come over here and fight,’ Parker continued.

‘And if that WBO mandatory is next in line it makes a lot of sense. Get one of your mandatories ticked off and fight in a country you’ve never fought in before, it is killing two birds with one stone. Let’s get him here.

‘We have to wait and see. If Plant does get the win there will be a rematch but if Canelo wins he might want to go up and vacate and that leaves plenty of big fights for us.

‘You’ve got the Daniel Jacobs fight, the David Lemieux fight. I would love to go to America and have those fights and get my name out there. We are in a really good place.’

Parker first however faces a dangerous test in Manchester’s Morrison. The 28-year-old went the distance with Chris Eubank Jr earlier this year and will derail the Derby fighter’s title bid if he gets the win tonight.

‘We are both British, my last two opponents were tough, tough foreign lads who people might not have known too much about here. This one with Marcus matters a bit more with the public and I can’t wait to get into it,’ Parker said.

‘It is a totally different fight compared to Eubank, I have to go in there to get the win, I can’t be thinking about past fights.’
