If you have not been previously entranced by Euphoria starring Zendaya and created and written by Sam Levinson for HBO, then this coming Monday (10th Jan) will be just like an other Monday. If though, you — like us — have been yearning for a second season since the first one wrapped back in 2019 (helloo, is Rue ok?!), then you’ll know that next Monday actually marks its long-awaited return to our screens.
Without giving away any spoilers, season one of Euphoria followed Rue, a high school student struggling to stay clean after getting out of rehab for drug addiction. And even though we might still be uncertain about what Rue Bennett has been up to since season one’s excruciating cliffhanger, we do know exactly what the actor behind her — our ultimate style crush, Zendaya — has been doing. Yep, the Emmy award-winning actor has been busy behind-the-scenes trying to get her boyfriend Tom Holland (here’s them gazing at each other at the Spiderman Premiere back in December in the same way we might look at an Espresso Martini after a long, long day at the office) onto the show, and we are here for it.
Speaking in a Q&A session with IMDb, Tom referenced the many, many requests he’s had from fans to make an appearance on the show:
“Listen, I have been petitioning for this for a long time and it has not happened yet and I’m very disappointed,” he explained, adding that he must have gone to visit the Euphoria set “30 times” this season to see his new-ish girlfriend (if you don’t believe the rumours of their romance that had been fizzing away for some time before they officially announced they were together back in July 2021).
And it seems the fans are not alone in their efforts to get the Spiderman actor a role on the show, Zendaya herself has been supporting the cause, confirming to Entertainment Tonight that the pair have: “Talked about it.”
“He supported me through the whole season,” she admitted. “You know, we joke about sneaking him into the background and seeing if someone can spot him.”
Now, before you get excited, so far there has been no confirmation – not even so much as a hint – from the show’s producers that Tom is set to join the show’s roster, even though we can so imagine him alongside Rue, Jules and Maddy. However, now that there is a Hollywood A-lister on the case, perhaps it’s more likely to become a reality? We’re swooning over the on-screen chemistry between these two already.
There’s still plenty to look forward to where the second season of Euphoria is concerned. “There’s a lot of emotions that are attached to this because this show, unlike anything else, is so personal,” Zendaya told ET.
“We live with it for such a long time,” she continued. “I mean, it’s not like a movie where you kind of live with the character for a portion of their life and then you let go of them. We’re with these characters for a long ass time. We feel very emotionally invested in them and in the project in general.”
Same, Zendaya, same.
With all the excitement of the new season, we’ll be putting the Zendaya/Tom Euphoria dream on hold for a while, meaning that if you want your fix of the celebrity couple you’ll either have to rewatch Spiderman: Far From Home or do a Google image search just like the rest of us, right guys? Guys?
And in the meantime, we’ll just be watching the Season 2 trailer over-and-over again until Monday. Join us.
