Zendaya just made grown-out blonde the most in-demand hair colour of summer

Grown-out blonde is the only hair colour you should be asking for this summer – and it’s all Zendaya’s fault.

Zendaya is no stranger to experimenting with various hairstyles; wasn’t it just last week we were admiring her bob, right before she mixed things up with hair extensions? We can barely keep up.

The multi-hyphenate is keeping us on our toes by unveiling yet another hairstyle – and she’s quickly turned it into the hair trend of summer.

The actress has been showcasing her much lighter hair hue on social media and we have a lot of time for it. We’re dubbing her new colour ‘grown-out blonde’ – and we’ve just discovered that salons are reporting a huge uptake in people requesting her exact hue.

As avid Zendaya fans will recall, the Dune star posted a snap on Instagram to debut her newly-lightened hair with the caption: “I feel like I just cut my hair…” 

A fan account called Zendaya_Updates then shared the video of the star’s hair via Twitter, and their followers went wild. “She looks so good with light brown hair,” one person tweeted. Another said, “This woman’s beauty just hits different.” 

So why is grown-out blonde in such high demand? As Jake Wanstall from Larry King salon, explains: “This colour is hugely popular because it’s so low maintenance because it has no roots; it’s an undone, relaxed and effortless look.”

Jake believes people are plumping for ‘carefree’ colours and styles this summer because they don’t have the time or inclination to spend hours on their hair. “Grown-out blonde is ideal for low-maintenance summer styles because you can wear it down, up or even half up, half down. It’s extra low maintenance as when it grows out, there are no roots so you can get away with getting it done every 3-6 months,” he said.
