Earlier this month, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Zion Williamson doesn’t have a relationship with the Pelicans’ organization.
“It’s surprising to me how out there it is in the league that the Pelicans are discussing Zion business,” Windhorst said. “I wouldn’t rule out anything I guess, but the events of the last six months with Zion are what they are. There is no relationship between Zion and the organization. And minimal relationship between Zion and his teammates, from what I understand.”
During an appearance on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast,” Pelicans guard CJ McCollum was asked if Williamson listens to him.
McCollum pretty much shut down the idea that Williamson tunes out his teammates.
“I think that he does,” McCollum said. “That’s a really good question. From a respect standpoint, he respects my approach, he respects my résumé.”
That’s not all McCollum had to say about his relationship with Williamson.
“We’re very close and we very much so communicate often more than the public eye would understand,” he added. “If you asked him, he would say absolutely.”

Williamson signed a five-year, $194 million contract extension with the Pelicans last offseason.
Although this offseason has been filled with drama, the Pelicans have not yet moved Williamson. We’ll see if they change their stance before the draft.
