13 Denver-area breweries opening by the end of 2022

While FlyteCo Brewing will make a splash when it rolls out its second location — complete with a bowling alley and mini golf course — at the base of the former Stapleton International Airport control tower in mid-August, it’s far from the only brewery that will open its doors in the seven-county Denver region by the end of 2022.

In fact, there are 13 other breweries with concrete plans to begin pouring beer, from Boulder to Castle Rock and Wheat Ridge to Aurora. Some, like FlyteCo, are from existing breweries while others will be the first efforts from brand-new business people.

It’s possible that one or two of these will be delayed until 2023, but it’s just as likely that other breweries-in-the-works will suddenly appear on our radar and open within months. For now, however, here’s a baker’s dozen that drinkers can expect to open in the next five months.

Alpine Dog Brewing Co., Denver

Alpine Dog Brewing has been without a home since it left its space at 1505 Ogden St. in August 2021 after eight years, but it will soon open in the former Denver Bicycle Cafe (308 E. 17th Ave.), which closed in 2019. Owner Gardiner Hammond is looking forward to a number of things he couldn’t do in the old place, including having a patio and making a wider variety of small-batch beers. Bambei Brewing, Superior

Located in a former Old Chicago restaurant, Bambei Brewing will offer a full menu (hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, wings, etc.) along with its own beers when the husband-and-wife team of Sean and Casey Bambei opens the doors later this year. Planned styles include an orange pale ale, cherry wheat, coffee porter, chocolate stout, Irish red and various India pale ales. The brewery includes a seven-barrel system, and the deer logo comes from the pronunciation of their last name. Planned opening date: December

Boulder Social, Boulder

Restaurateur Frank Day, who founded Boulder’s legendary Walnut Brewery and Denver’s Rock Bottom Brewery, is returning to his roots with this newest concept. Boulder Social took over the space formerly occupied by Ska Street Brewstillery, including the 10-barrel brew house, and enlisted the business’ former head “brewstiller” to lead beer operations. House-made beer here is meant for pairing with an extensive menu of food items such as pizza, burgers, sandwiches, sushi and oysters. Planned opening date: fall

Cerebral Brewing, Aurora

Cerebral Brewing, which has become an essential part of Denver’s beer scene since opening in late 2015, just got its new production brewery up and running in the 18,000-square-foot warehouse it bought in 2020. The facility includes a new brewhouse and dozens of barrels. But by the end of the year, the brewery hopes to launch a sales room there, where people can stop in to buy cans and merchandise. In 2023, Cerebral would like to add an adjoining taproom with a second-story mezzanine. Planned opening: winter

Danico Brewing Co., Denver

After significant pandemic-related delays, business partners Nikki Harwood and David Lotierzo are pushing forward on Danico Brewing, which will be located in a 6,400-square-foot space just off Peña Boulevard near a string of motels serving Denver International Airport. The brewery will have 10 to 15 beers on tap and plans to bring in food trucks. Planned opening: October

Denver Beer Co., Denver

Denver Beer Co.’s fourth brewery is bringing its well-known recipes — and some new ones, thanks to a seven-barrel brewing system onsite — to drinkers on the east side of the city. Though this is the first location that the company has built from the ground up, it will maintain the charm that fans have grown to love — namely, a massive outdoor dog- and kid-friendly patio, pub grub and good vibes. Kodiac Brewery & Grill, Centennial

Details are few on Kodiac Brewery & Grill, but owner Nanda Maranani told The Denver Post he would like to open in the third week of September. Maranani is also involved in other south Denver restaurants. Planned opening date: September

Left Hand Brewing Co., Denver

A stalwart of Colorado’s beer scene, Longmont’s Left Hand Brewing Co. is moving to the Mile High City’s RiNo Arts District with a 7,400-square-foot taproom and restaurant featuring 40 taps of mostly original beer, but also some guest brews, wine and cocktails. Additionally, there will be a tiny pilot brewing system onsite for making specialty recipes. The food menu here focuses on Neapolitan-style pizza cooked in a custom Marra Forni brick oven. And since it’s located near Mission Ballroom, it’s bound to be a hot spot on concert nights. Left Hand will eventually have its own area for live music to entertain before- and after-show crowds. Live Slow Brewing, Wheat Ridge

Beer and bowling make a great team, but breweries with bowling aren’t all that common. That will change when Live Slow Brewing opens in the redeveloped Paramount Bowl building in Wheat Ridge. Owned by Dry Dock Brewing Co.’s former head brewer Alan Simons, Joyride Brewing Co. co-owner Grant Babb and Joyride bartender Joe Malouff, Live Slow will feature six lanes of bowling, elevated bowling alley-style food, a patio, TVs and a host of easy-drinking beers. The 20-barrel brewhouse will be custom-designed to fit the unusual space, while the fermenters will be lined up parallel with the bowling lanes. The bar and the tables will be made from the reclaimed wood of the other six lanes at Paramount Bowl. Planned opening date: November

Mobcraft Dee Tacko, Denver

MobCraft Dee Tacko brings together two established companies that will soon nourish Five Points residents and visitors with a classic pairing: beer and tacos. Wisconsin’s MobCraft is a self-described “crowdsourced” brewery, meaning it asks customers to decide which beer styles to brew. It will start by serving previously crowdsourced recipes, such as its Tipsy Tiger rice lager with turmeric and ginger, to pair with bites such as a steak taco called the COVID-19 and a shrimp taco called The Cure from Pueblo export Dee Tacko. The restaurant will serve beer and taco flights, too, so you can try many from both menus. Planned opening date: August

Public Offering Brewing Co., Denver

South Broadway’s brewery row will get a new member when Public Offering Brewing opens, joining three other beer-makers within a five-block stretch. Named for founder Cody Higginbottom’s background as an investment banker, Public Offering will feature a 10-barrel brewhouse enclosed by floor-to-ceiling windows, an indoor pergola, barrel roof, community tables, front and back roll-up garage doors, and a 2,000-square-foot back patio. Higginbottom earned a brewing certificate from Regis University in Denver and did an internship at Station 26 Brewing Co. Planned opening date: October

Second Dawn Brewing, Aurora

Longtime New Belgium Brewing research-and-development manager Ross Koenigs and his wife, Amy, will open Second Dawn Brewing in a 5,100-square-foot former auto repair shop near the bustling Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. It will include a 1,000-square-foot patio and lineup of eight to 10 beers, each with a little bit of Koenigs’ spin to them, along with ingredient-forward beer cocktails. The couple describes the brewery’s design as a “reimagined taproom experience” that will “identify and break down societal norms about public spaces and redo them” in order to be more welcoming to a diverse crowd.
