Participants in the 14th annual Believe Walk raised more than $1.2 million for the fight against cancer, organizers said, despite the event being held virtually for the second year in a row due to coronavirus safety protocols.
In a news release, organizers of the walk, traditionally held in downtown Redlands each October, said Believe Walk partner Stater Bros. Charities raised more than $900,000 of the total funds collected in 2021. Since the walk was founded, participants have raised more than $6.1 million for programs and services at local organizations that specialize in cancer care.
This year, beneficiaries include:
• Beloved Foundation• Desert Cancer Foundation• Loma Linda University Cancer Center• Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center• Redlands Community Hospital• Riverside University Health System Foundation• St. Bernardine Medical Center• The Care Project• The Pink Ribbon Place at Riverside Community Health Foundation
The annual Believe Walk was established in by Inland Women Fighting Cancer founders Annie Sellas, Cathy Stockton and Nancy Varner in partnership with Stater Bros. Varner died in 2019.
“From the onset, our wonderful Believe Walk has been blessed with the support of Stater Bros. Charities and our caring community,” Stockton said, according to the news release. “A big thank you to all our Believers for their continued support for cancer patients and their families in the Inland Empire.”
The Believe Walk is expected to return to downtown Redlands in 2022, organizers said.
