1923 Season 2 Faces More Production Delays After Loss of Key Filming Location

It seems that not all is going smoothly for the beloved Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. Fans of the series have another hurdle to surmount as production delays continue to plague its second season. Amid the intricate tales of rural Montana’s challenges, especially during the tumultuous era of the Great Depression, the show is actively searching for a fresh sound stage.

Season 1 had wowed audiences with compelling narratives and the powerhouse duo of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren playing Jacob and Cara Dutton, respectively. With its intricate plot, it not only expands upon the Yellowstone narrative but also serves as a sequel to the franchise’s series 1883. But now, the next season’s production journey seems more like a twisty plotline of its own.

Recent news by KXLF has revealed that the 1923 production team will no longer use the Butte Civic Center in Butte, Montana as their primary sound stage. The reasons behind this decision are tied to the prolonged delays the show has been experiencing. Previously, it had been slated to commence filming in November.

Butte Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher said,

“It’s disappointing in the fact that people were looking forward to 1923 coming back and having production in town, but we understand.”

While, Civic Center Manager Bill Melvin shared,

“They just could not build everything, be ready to film before November, and get it all done, they had lost the timing of that.”

However, due to the dual challenges of the ongoing Hollywood writers and actors strikes, this timeline has been disrupted. Therefore, the hunt is on for a new filming venue once the production of new episodes resumes.

This isn’t the only speed bump in the Yellowstone franchise’s journey. The much-anticipated Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 was previously expected to grace our screens this November. Unfortunately, the strikes have thrown a wrench into these plans, leaving fans in the lurch regarding its premiere on Paramount Network. To compound these delays, Kevin Costner, who brilliantly brings to life the character of John Dutton, will be making his final appearance in the series.

The anticipated conclusion of the Yellowstone series in its fifth season had fans eagerly awaiting its follow-up featuring Matthew McConaughey. However, once again, the ongoing strikes hint at further delays.

Amidst all this, another series from the Yellowstone universe, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, began its production journey in January. Yet, it remains uncertain whether this spinoff has evaded the strikes or production-related obstacles that its sister series have faced.

The last few months have undeniably been tumultuous for the Yellowstone franchise. This series of setbacks might seem like a discouraging phase, but there’s a silver lining on the horizon. Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone, reportedly has at least four more Yellowstone prequels waiting in the wings. With this promise of future content, it’s hopeful that once the strikes conclude and Hollywood returns to its full swing, series like 1923 and others under the Yellowstone banner will bounce back, bringing their riveting tales back into our living rooms.
