All northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in Hawthorne have been closed due to a shooting involving California Highway Patrol officers on Thursday night.
A SigAlert has been issued for lanes at Inglewood Avenue a little before 8 p.m., according to CHP.
Authorities first received a call reporting a fire at a homeless encampment near the on-ramp to the northbound 405 Freeway at Rosecrans. When officers arrived, they found a person who became uncooperative and began throwing bricks at them.
That’s when the suspect was shot by CHP, authorities said.
Sky5 images show traffic was heavily backed up for at least a mile as officers shut down highway lanes to investigate.
No CHP officers were injured during the incident. The suspect’s condition remains unknown.
A reopening time has not been announced.
