A drive-by shooting in Houston, Texas left a 5-year-old child dead from gunshot wounds and an 8-year-old child injured early Sunday.

Houston police said a woman was waiting at a stoplight in the 13500 block of Northborough Drive in the Greenspoint neighborhood at around 1 a.m. when a dark-colored vehicle passed by.

Two people inside the vehicle opened fire, shooting multiple rounds into the woman’s car carrying her two children inside, reported Click2Houston.

The mother immediately drove her wounded children to an area hospital, where the 5-year-old was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the 8-year-old victim was expected to recover. The children have not been named as of Monday afternoon.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department said it is unclear at this time whether the vehicle or the mother were the intended targets of the gunmen.
