The high demand for rentals in Sydney has seen come unique properties with interesting features offered to renters, but a new listing in Marrickville reveals the current state of the market.
The property, listed as a four-bedroom apartment on popular real estate sites such as Domain and realestate.com.au, features tiny rooms fitted with windows that would allow tenants to peer into each other‘s private spaces.
The original purpose of the “unit” has been revealed through a listing on Domain’s business rental site Commercial Real Estate, which describes the property as a set of offices.
The commercial listing describes the property as a “prime office in the heart of Marrickville” and that it ”suits a wide range of uses”.
While on the residential listing, the property is described as a “4 bedrooms unit including Electricity, Internet and Water bill”.
Any future tenant would be expected to fork out $850 per week for the property, amounting to $212.50 per “room”.
Despite being listed as both a commercial and residential property, both listings feature swag beds set up in each of the office spaces.
The property, offered for lease through Sincere Real Estate Australia, also features two bathrooms with a shower and a “full kitchen”.
“Secure your businesses place in the heart of this thriving industrial precinct,” the listing reads on the commercial site.

Sydney renters are facing skyrocketing prices for a place to live as vacancy rates drop.
The latest Market Insight Report from PropTrack has found that rental prices rose by an average 10 per cent year-on-year in the September quarter for Sydney.
The median cost for renting a home has reached new heights of $640 per week for a house and $520 a week for a unit.
In the city and inner south, where Marrickville is located, rental listings have dropped 40 per cent year on year.
Commercial properties are able to have residential tenants, if zoning and housing laws allow.
“You can live in the same building or site as your business but it pays to do your research,” realestate.com.au’s commercial site says.
“Town planning experts advise zoning is key to combining a commercial and residential lifestyle, with potential penalties possible for those who ignore rules and regulations.
The property at 4 Shirlow Street, Marrickville is available to be inspected on December 3 from 9:45am to 10:15am.
