Accused in Eliza Fletcher kidnapping-murder is innocent, says mom

Cleotha Henderson, the man accused of kidnapping and murdering Eliza Fletcher while she jogging near the University of Memphis earlier this month, is innocent, according to his mother.

“He’s just a good person, kind, lovable,” Memphis-based Virgie Abston, 65, told a Daily Mail reporter on Tuesday, FOX News reported.

“I talked to him, and he said he didn’t do it. He said, ‘They’re trying to put me in some stuff, Mom.’”

Still, Henderson, has a long rap sheet and previous serious convictions including the rape of a 14-year-old and the armed abduction and robbery of lawyer Kemper Durand in 2000.

His new charges, including kidnapping, murder and rape, are in connection with Fletcher and the rape of another woman last year.

The ninth grade dropout has also been charged with about a half-dozen counts of aggravated assault.

Durand, who died in 2013, urged Henderson be sentenced to the maximum punishment possible according to a 2001 victim impact statement obtained by Fox News Digital.

“I understand that (Henderson’s) record goes back to 1995, when he was about 13 years old, and shows juvenile court matters in every year — 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999,” said Durand.

“He obviously never learned any lesson from his encounters with the law.”

Criminal profiler John Kelly said in a Fox News Digital interview that Henderson may have had additional victims.

“The thing about these sexual predators, it seems it doesn’t matter how much time they do,” said Kelly, who’s interviewed multiple serial killers.

“When they get out, they’re back on the hunt.”
