Expect a first-time winner on the PGA Tour this week, six of the last nine champions at the John Deere Classic have celebrated their maiden success on the circuit.

And with only one player ranked in the Tour’s top 30 on parade, and generally regarded as one of the weaker PGA events, it is a safe bet the trend will continue after Sunday’s final round.

Want more statistics? Well, the last ten winners in the Illinois tournament have accumulated an average of 21-under-par in victory.

It means accuracy off the tee and hot putting are key to success and our prime pick has to be Adam Schenk.

He finished tied sixth at the John Deere in 2019 and T4 two years later and was expecting to go well last year but was forced to withdraw with an injury.

As well as a decent track record, Schenk has been in fine fettle since being runner-up at the Valspar Championship in March.

He was then beaten in a play-off in the Charles Schwab before finishing T7 at the Memorial and a solo seventh at last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The 31-year-old world No.53 is capable of sinking birdies in bunches and appeals at 28/1 with William Hill.

Denny McCarthy nearly broke his Tour duck when he was beaten by Viktor Hovland on the first play-off hole at the Memorial.

His superior putting then saw him finish T20 at the US Open before sharing seventh last time out at the Travelers and he is 16/1 with Sky Bet.

Next on this week’s portfolio is Adam Hadwin, who cashed for us last week – alongside Aaron Rai – when being beaten in a play-off in Detroit.

He has gone 24 under since missing the cut at the Memorial four outings ago and is fancied at 28/1 with Hills.

Our final each-way is Chez Reavie, like Hadwin an exception to our rule with three Tour victories, but he is in excellent shape with a fourth at the Travelers meaning odds of 55/1 with the same firm really must be snapped up.

• Caroline Garcia can reach the third round of the Wimbledon women’s singles by beating Leylah Fernandez by over 3.5 games at 4/5 with bet365.

• Stick Surrey, Somerset and Hampshire in a treble in Friday’s T20 Blast matches.
