Shivanarayana Jewellers created this Ananthasayana idol for Bhima jewellers Chairman Dr. P. Govindan. They created this idol solely for display.

The media frequently reports about worshippers presenting items worth millions and crores to the Gods in places of worship. Now it has come to our attention that a video has been circulating claiming that the Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala has received a diamond-encrusted Ananthasayana form made of gold.

The Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple, dedicated to Maha Vishnu and it is widely considered as the world’s richest Hindu temple. The principal deity is Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu), who is enshrined in the “Anantha Shayana” posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the infinite serpent Adi Shesha with his right hand on Sivalinga and having a lotus in his left hand.

The video is circulating with the caption “Joy alukkas & Bhima jewellery donated TVM Lord Padmanabha Swamy Temple fully diamond and gold.ANANTHA SAYANAM IDOL.”

But on investigation we found that this idol has nothing to do with the Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram and were made by a jeweler in Hyderabad.

The post has been widely shared on Facebook.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google; the results led us to an Instagram profile of Sivanarayanan Jewelers Pvt. A similar video is provided on the page. The caption reads A NEW MASTERPIECE ‘SHRI ANANTH PADMANABHASWAMY,’ BY SHIV NARAYAN JEWELLERS DEDICATED TO DR. B. GOVINDAN, CHAIRMAN OF BHIMA JEWELLERS THIRUVANANTHAPURAM”

In further search we found a video report published by PTI News on 22 August with the caption “Hyderabad Jeweller aims for 9th entry into Guinness Book with a 2.8 Kg gold and diamond studded idol”. The description states Hyderabad-based Shiv Narayan Jewellers unveiled their latest masterpiece, an idol depicting Lord Vishnu in the Yoga Nidra or Yogic Sleep position, inspired by the iconic idol of Shri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy in the temple of the same name in Thiruvananthapuram. The idol measures 8 inches in height and 18 inches in length, and weighs 2.8 kg. It is adorned with over 75,000 high-quality diamonds, totalling an astounding 500 carats”.

None of the reports regarding the circulating video of Ananthapadmanabha swami has given that it was dedicated to Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple. For further clarification we contacted the Padmanabhaswamy Temple Public Relations Officer. He clarified: This is completely false news. No one has dedicated such an idol to the Padmanabhaswamy temple and the social media is spreading false propaganda regarding the video”.

Also we contacted the Thiruvananthapuram Bhima Jewellery Public Relations Office. They explained “False news, this video was circulating on social media with a false claim. We do not undertake any such projects in association with Joyalukkas Jewellery. This is totally a false propaganda; we created this idol solely for display and have no other purpose.”

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim along with the viral video to be False. Shivanarayana Jewellers created this Anantha Padmanabhaswamy idol for Bhima jewellers Chairman Dr. P. Govindan. The news that Bhima Jewellery and Joy Alukkas Jewellery are donating it to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple is completely false. It has been clarified by both temple officials and Bhima Jewellery.
