Andrea Bocelli sings Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love in new duet

Every year Andrea Bocelli returns to Lajatico, his hometown in Tuscany, Italy to sing at the Teatro del Silenzio (Theatre of Silence).

The 64-year-old tenor convinced the local municipality to build the open air amphitheatre back in 2006, to which he contributed greatly.

Apart from his annual performance there every July, the outdoor venue remains silent, as its name suggests, for the rest of the year.

Highlights from the 2023 performance have been posted on his official Instagram page including a duet of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love, with Emma Marrone.

The song was originally recorded by The King for his 1961 movie Blue Hawaii and went on to become a signature rendition during the late star’s live performances.

Bocelli previously told Express.co.uk: “There is no denying that Elvis had a great talent.

He possessed a pliant voice with extensive range and a soft and enveloping timbre. Plus, he was an extremely charismatic person.”

The King has so many hit songs over his 21-year professional career, so we asked the Italian tenor why he chose the two classic ballads Love Me Tender and Can’t Help Falling In Love to cover in particular.

Bocelli told us: “It’s curious that they are both songs that have a long history behind them. In both cases, Elvis Presley’s versions are extraordinary and memorable. Yet I have the wishful thinking that I too had something to say, to add, artistically speaking, to the performance of these classics.”

On Can’t Help Falling In Love, he said: “As for the second, the melody is even older, being taken from a very famous Romanza composed at the end of the 18th century, Plaisir d’amour.”

The latter is a well-known French love song that was composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini.
