Andy Ruiz Jr wants to face the winner of Tyson Fury’s title defence against Dillian Whyte.

Fury will defend his WBC title against the ‘Body Snatcher’ later this year after Frank Warren won purse bids with an offer worth £31million to stage the clash.

Ruiz was previously touted as an alternative opponent for Fury if the fight did not make it over the line as negotiations stalled.

“I definitely want the winner of the fight,” Ruiz told Elie Seckbach. “A lot of people wish it would have been Fury and me.

“But you know, I think that Whyte deserves his shot, so we are going to see what happens. I think it’s going to be a hell of a fight.”

The Mexican star has been out of action since his stuttering victory over Chris Arreola last May where he was sent crashing to the canvas early on.

However under the guidance of award-winning trainer Eddy Reynoso, he is looking to put his name back at the pinnacle of the division.

Ruiz secured a shock victory over British star Anthony Joshua to grab his unified titles in sensational fashion as a huge underdog.

However ‘AJ’ grabbed his revenge in a mega-money rematch to regain his belts and leave Ruiz empty-handed.

With little hope of having an immediate title shot later this year, Ruiz has recently been called out for a rematch with heavyweight contender Joseph Parker.

The heavyweight scene has now been resolved with Fury now set to defend his titles against Whyte while Joshua rematches Oleksandr Usyk.

Talks stalled after Whyte was ordered to receive just 20 per cent of the purse split with the champion getting the favourable financial terms.

Delays in negotiations briefly opened the door for Fury to fight Usyk for the undisputed titles with Joshua willing to accept a £15million step-aside offer.

However this situation collapsed leaving purse bids to resolve and secure the heavyweight showdown for Fury against Whyte.

Fury’s domestic rival has been waiting for a title shot since 2017 but is yet to accept the fight officially despite being handed a deadline.

He will be the underdog going into the contest but will back himself to deliver a shock victory and hand Fury the first defeat.

Despite backing his charge to continue his winning run, Fury’s promoter Bob Arum believes the challenger could pose a tougher threat to Fury than Deontay Wilder.

“Whyte has a great chance because he’s a big, big puncher,” Arum told iFL TV.

“He’s a very rugged heavyweight, a very experienced heavyweight. If anything, he poses a bigger danger to Tyson than even Deontay Wilder did.”
