Speaking in a new interview, Ant McPartlin said the duo are going to take a break from Saturday Night Takeaway after 20 years of hosting the ITV show.

He explained: “We love making Saturday Night Takeaway but reaching the milestone of 20 series seemed like the perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath.”

Dec added: We still have a momentous 20th series to look forward to first so we will do our best to go out (for now) with a bang in 2024.”

Ant and Dec will film their full-length series as normal in 2024 before stepping back to pursue other projects.

The series previously took a break in 2009, returning to ITV four years later in 2013.

The pair will continue working with ITV by hosting their hit shows including I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Britain’s Got Talent, and Limitless Win.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will return next year for its 20th and last series for a while.

The programme has spawned numerous iconic segments over the years, including Win the Ads, Undercover, Get Out Of Me Ear, The End of Show Show, and the Happiest Minute of the Week.

Speaking about Ant and Dec’s decision to take a break, Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of media and entertainment, said: “When you think of Saturday night television you think of Saturday Night Takeaway.

“Over 20 series the show has become a cultural phenomenon, and while we eagerly anticipate what Ant & Dec have up their sleeves for the 2024 series, we completely understand their desire to take a pause, take stock, and think about what the next incarnation of the show might look like.”

Fans have been left devastated by the comedy duo’s decision, with many taking to Twitter to share their disappointment.

Pauline wrote: “Noo u can’t take a break, how selfish.”

Matt Clarke penned: “Noooooooooooo, a break? It’s the best thing on TV. There’s nothing else that even comes close for Saturday night entertainment.” (sic)

While Jordan Davies added: “Literally the best show on TV no joke. Every ‘item’ could be a TV show in its own right. The places on the plane to deserving heroes is the best. Keep it going boys.” (sic)

Scott shared: “Ah we will miss it but you both deserve a nice break!”

“Aw man selfishly gutted – will once again miss it for sure,” Kelsey Ringwood went on to say.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will return in 2024 on ITV.
