Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Open to Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Hollywood icon Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a part of many franchises, and even though he’s ventured into superhero movie territory in the past, he has yet to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Particularly known for his work on action movies, Schwarzenegger famously played the villain Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin. Of course, that film wasn’t exactly well-received upon its release, and that may have been what’s kept Schwarzenegger away from comic book adaptations since.

In any case, Schwarzenegger wasn’t involved with the MCU, even as that movie universe would greatly expand with new movies and TV shows to further flesh out that world. But this isn’t to say that the Terminator star would not be interested if Kevin Feige were to give him a call. In a new interview with Men’s Health, the actor was asked about the potentiality of joining the MCU, and his response suggests he’s very open to it as long as he’s fond of the character being offered.

“If the role is right!” as Schwarzenegger puts it.

Maybe his former rival and current pal Sylvester Stallone joining the MCU has Schwarzenegger more interested in coming into that picture. Schwarzenegger recently said he would love to star in a series created by Taylor Sheridan after observing how well that has gone for Stallone and the Paramount+ series Tulsa King. Stallone also recently had a role in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is now playing in theaters and marks the newest chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stallone also voiced King Shark in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, so he has a presence in that superhero world as well.

It should be noted that Schwarzenegger did get involved with Marvel mastermind Stan Lee to develop an animated superhero series, but it is not set within the MCU. Called Superhero Kindergarten, the cartoon features the voice and likeness of Schwarzenegger as Captain Fantastic, a former superhero working undercover as a kindergarten teacher to help train superpowered children into becoming superheroes. Marking the final project worked on by Lee, it debuted in 2021 and has a second season in the works.

“It’s the first time I’ve done a TV animated show, the whole show,” Schwarzenegger said of the program to Business Insider. “It’s also the first time that I’ve done something that is directly for kids. Most of my comedies are kind of geared to adults too, like Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Christmas in Connecticut, Jingle All the Way, Junior. This is specifically for the kids audience.”

Time will tell if Schwarzenegger gets a role in the MCU, but to see more of Arnold, you can check out his new series, FUBAR, on Netflix. The show might not be a superhero project, but it’s filled with action, showcasing Schwarzenegger at the top of his game and still doing what he does best.
