Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Frimpong has revealed that two of his former team-mates “got into one” in the wake of Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane’s recent bust-up. The Bayern Munich stars hit the headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this month following their first-leg defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.
News broke in Germany after the match that Mane had hit Sane in the face after an argument spilled over into the dressing room at the Etihad. Other players reportedly had to step in to separate the two with Sane’s lip said to be bleeding from the altercation.
Mane was temporarily suspended by Bayern in the aftermath before being fined £250,000 and reintegrated into the team. But Frimpong has revealed that the sort of incident between Mane and Sane happens regularly in football and he recalled a time when two of his former Arsenal team-mates had a similar spat.
“Bust-ups happen in football all the time. I remember at Arsenal two players got into one behind closed doors,” he told Lord Ping. “You just have to brush it off and move on. In any relationship, whether it is marriage or friendship, you will have arguments with each other and Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane aren’t any different.
“You would think that because of their similar names (Sane and Mane) they would get along, but unfortunately they are not! I’m hearing that Mane apologised and they have moved on, I think that is all that matters.”
Arsenal will be hoping to build on an impressive campaign this summer with more world-class signings to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad. Reports in Germany have indicated Mane could be made available following his bust-up with Sane.
And Frimpong isn’t put off by Mane’s discipline record with the hope of seeing him make the move to the Emirates.
“Sadio Mane would be a great signing for Arsenal, especially with the young players that we have, he will be able to play on the wings or down the middle,” he added.
“We have players like Trossard, Martinelli and Saka and if we had Mane in the mix to get us through tough competitions, we would be powerful. I can imagine Sadio Mane in an Arsenal shirt for sure.”
