Avicii’s father, Klas Bergling, calls for more mental health support for up-and-coming artistsEhZTYgAAY5zT

In a recent interview with The Times, Klas Bergling, father of the late Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, has opened up more about the loss of his son. Avicii had taken his own life in 2018, with Bergling declaring that what had burdened his son was “fame and fortune, and that’s a very dangerous combination. When you have an up-and-coming artist there should be some structure.” Throughout the interview, the elder Bergling opens up about his family’s struggle to get Tim the help he needed, noting that his approach to Tim’s health was “naive” at times.

After the loss of Avicii, Bergling has dedicated himself to helping other artists get support for their mental health. Shortly after Avicii’s death, his family set up The Tim Bergling Foundation to “focus on supporting people and organisations working in the field of mental illness and suicide prevention.” Throughout the conversation, Bergling calls for better support systems for up-and-coming artists, in the hopes that young, emerging stars can obtain the help they need to navigate fame’s darker avenues.
